Releasing anger helps breast cancer
"Have you ever had the feeling that something is missing? That's where I am now on this breast cancer journey. I feel like I am on the road to healing, but I have encountered a stop sign. Something deep inside is telling me that there is more to be done, and it is vital.
I am submitting myself to a breast cancer doctor and a plastic surgeon, and they both are performing the best modern medicine has to offer. I am only halfway through the breast reconstructive surgeries.
The feeling that something is missing sends me on an inward journey to work on my inner self. I have given my physical body all the attention and neglected my spirit. Now it is clear that healing of my inner self is what was missing.
My total healing process cannot continue until I rectify this error. This is hard work. People who experience major illnesses are curious where their illnesses came from. Was it diet? Was it hereditary? Was it communicable? We want to know. When it comes to breast cancer, the experts offer a list of probable causes, but no one is sure. I have asked my physicians repeatedly, and they are probably tired of my questions. They do not know.
Getting in touch I search for answers and, as I do, I get more in touch with my neglected spirit. One study I read says that breast cancer can be caused by stressful situations filled with anger. Anger acts as an internal toxin. I begin to wonder about myself.
I opt to include non-traditional medicine as I search within. Lots of cancer patients explore non-Western remedies.
My search may be different in that I am not looking for a cancer cure, but a soul cure. Dallas has a number of alternative medicine practitioners. I happen across a practitioner who is a woman. Her office is nearby, and she has an opening tomorrow. I am in.
This doctor is actually a Christian practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is young, attractive and very interested in my breast cancer journey. I relax because I believe she can help me go within and find what is missing.
Examining meridians "I am going to examine your meridians first," she says. I did not know I had them and quickly try to figure out what part of my body she intends to examine. "Meridians," she explains, "are the pathways through which the body's bio-energy flows." She tapes sensors to several pulse points, and in a few minutes the results are that I have blockages in my meridians. This means that my energy is not flowing properly. She talks with me more, exploring my eating habits, my sleeping patterns and other windows to the soul, and sharing with me that a probable issue that must be resolved is anger in my spirit.
Anger in my spirit. She was right. I could not admit it to myself. I needed an outside opinion to tell me what I already knew. The missing link in my healing process is confronting my anger and getting on with forgiveness.
My spirit is wounded. A very oppressive situation wounded me emotionally. Some people think pastors are flawless and live perfect lives, but we don't. I risk this vulnerability if I can help someone else with the issue of unforgiveness.
Everyone gets emotionally hurt in life. Some just can't let go, and the wound cripples them. I have always been one to bounce back from hurt feelings and emotional wounds. They are a part of the landscape of being a pastor.
But I encountered one experience that was more intense and lethal than I anticipated. None of my advanced degrees prepared me for it, and a deep wound was created. I internalized the pain, and never let it out.
The unresolved anger led to unforgiveness. I believe, although no one else has said so, that this anger possibly led to the breast cancer.
There is a twisted sense of comfort we get from nursing old wounds. We can marinate in our misery for years and develop a taste for the agony. But bathing in bitterness is never wise. Forgiveness is the only way to get up, get on and get healed completely.
Forgiveness will mean suturing up the internal wounds. Forgiveness does not disregard the harm that was done to me. It does free me up from producing internal negatives that poison my soul. It also ends the painful dance in my mind that comes from rehashing and rehearsing what was done to me. It liberates me from being the victim.
Reaping the benefits I read somewhere that there are lots of benefits of forgiveness. Some of the benefits, although unproven, include:
- accelerated healing, both emotionally and physically; relief from depression and resentment; increase in physical strength; stress reduction; immune system booster; better digestion; and a more positive outlook.
So I did it. I placed the situations and the people who hurt me in the center of my mind and I said, "I forgive you. I release all the energy and thoughts that are negative and replace them with positives."
I cried.
The tears represent the water washing away the toxins I clung to.
Now the healing can really begin".
In addition to this objective testimonial for the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine we would like to share with you few considerations regarding the general approach of TCM in fighting the breast cancer.
The disease is often caused, as the article states, by internal injuries due to emotions, which lead to stagnation of energy, and consequently stasis of body fluids. At the last stage internal accumulation of toxins affect the internal organs function and deplete the energy of the body lead to termination of life.
The approach of nowadays of TCM in treating mammary cancer is early diagnosis and early treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation-therapy, as applicable) completed with specific TCM therapies (acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Qigong).
The direct effects of TCM therapies are as follows:
- reduce toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy;
- strengthen the patient's constitution and immune system;
- from TCM stand point these therapies move Qi, eliminate phlegm, invigorate blood, transform stasis, soften hardness (of the tumor) and scatter accumulation (of "masses");
- re-establish emotional balance.
The following essential oils are well suited to help in complementary therapies of the Cancer —they include: Angelica (Angelica archangelica), Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), Ginger (Zingiber officinalis), Lemon (Citrus limonum), Neroli (Citrus aurantium), Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), Pine (Pinus sylvestris), and Violet leaf (Viola odorata). Most of these oils contain the chemical constituent Limonene and related terpenoids, which have been shown to prevent and/or fight carcinogen-induced mammary cancer.
As a preventive approach, in addition to TCM maintenance treatments, we use in our practice homeopathic remedies, giving the fact that most of them help in balancing emotions. The homeopathic remedies are prescribed by a member of our team based on homeopathic assessment and evaluation of your constitution.
We strongly believe that a co-operation with your Western (alopathic) doctor is necessary regarding TCM therapies. You should let him/her know that you are planning to take TCM treatments complementary to the conventional treatments. Most of the doctors are aware of the best time when TCM therapies are recommended to be taken from the conventional treatment sequence standpoint. However, when your doctor is completely against TCM treatments try to obtain a reasonable an unbiased explanation. If you are not satisfied with that, contact a qualified TCM practitioner and after you have an initial TCM assessment decide on your own on this issue.
